Jesse joined The Barrington of Carmel in 2017, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience as an administrator in health care and skilled nursing communities. Jesse has a strong background in all aspects of senior living, and has made significant positive contributions to the lives of residents and their families in assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing. Under his leadership, the level of service at The Barrington of Carmel will only continue to exceed the expectations of the seniors and families we serve.

Janine Short

Janine Short

Director of Sales

Janine has more than six years of experience providing design consulting in color trends, kitchen and bath design, flooring, fixtures and overall interior design. Prior to joining the Barrington, Janine was a Design Consultant for The Estridge Group. She received her associate’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Penny Hurst

Penny Hurst

Senior Living Counselor

Penny joined The Barrington of Carmel sales team in August 2009 with nearly 15 years of experience in insurance and investments. From 2002 to 2008, she held a Series 6 and Series 63 investment license, as well as a Health & Life Insurance license. Prior to joining The Barrington team, she worked in investments at National City Bank in Fishers, Indiana. Penny earned her degree from Union County College in Cranford, New Jersey.

Nikki Meeker

Lifestyles Director

Nikki joined The Barrington of Carmel sales team in April 2014, bringing with her over four years of experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to joining the team, she was named #1 AM concierge in the country for Renaissance Hotels. Nikki had a concentration in European studies at Seattle Pacific University and has lived in Carmel for 8 years.

Susie Ries Herrmann

Susie Ries Herrmann

Director of Sales - Health Services

Susie is a proud Carmel native. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Purdue University and a master’s in social work from Indiana University. Susie has more than 30 years of experience working with people in both social work and marketing roles. Before joining The Barrington, Susie was a licensed clinical NICU social worker at St. Vincent’s Women‘s Hospital. And prior to that, she worked for 17 years as an adoption coordinator and marketing specialist for Adoption Support Center, Inc. in Indianapolis.

Andre Cooper

Andre Cooper

Executive Chef

Andre graduated from Le Cordon Bleu of Chicago in 2005. Originally from Gary, Indiana, he continued his culinary career in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs, working for companies such as Hilton and Hyatt, as well as a few family-owned restaurants. From Chicago, he moved on to the Indianapolis area to further his career in health care hospitality. From music artists and TV personalities to his own daughters, Andre has cooked for a wide variety of tastes and continues to do so at The Barrington.

Bill Schaefer

Bill Schaefer

Director of Dining Services

Bill is a graduate of The Restaurant School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and brings a wide variety of experience to The Barrington of Carmel – from handling front desk operations and furnishing rooms to setting up hotel computer systems and hiring management personnel. He began working with Marriott Management Services as a chef but was soon promoted to executive chef, general manager and eventually district manager, covering Illinois and Indiana and overseeing Fortune 500 company’s food service.

Jeanne Henry

Jeanne Henry

Director of Human Relations

Jeanne joined The Barrington team in April 2017 as human resources coordinator and was promoted to human resources manager in October 2017. She has a diverse background in business, working as an administrative assistant and running her own transcription service before moving into the human resources field. Jeanne has an associate degree in business administration and certificates in business and human resources management.

Kara Owen

Kara Owen

Health Services Administrator

Kara earned a Bachelor of Science in human biology from Indiana University, with a concentration in human health and disease and psychology. She began her career in health care working at a senior living community for those with developmental disabilities. She is a licensed health facility administrator, qualified memory care professional, co-founder of Chi Delta Phi at Indiana University, and serves alongside many local outreach service organizations.

Ryan Ramirez

Ryan Ramirez

Director of Plant Operations

Ryan joined The Barrington of Carmel team in March 2015, bringing with him over 13 years of experience in the health care industry. In the past, he’s managed four senior housing communities in the Indianapolis area. He started his career as an aviation mechanic and holds a degree in aviation technology. His many years of management experience make him an invaluable asset to The Barrington team.
